Boys: 5 best outfit tips for job interviews

Boys: 5 best outfit tips for job interviews

You may wonder What will be the best outfit to wear to a job interview? The answer will vary depending on the type of job and company you're interviewing with. You always want to dress to make the best impression, but the outfit you choose depends on whether you're interviewing at a company with a formal dress code, at a casual startup, or for an informal summer job or internship. Dressing appropriately is important because the first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing.

1 Bold button-down shirt

Always coordinate your tie with an interesting button-down shirt for a look that is sophisticated and stylish while going to an interview. You should be thoughtful when choosing your button-down shirt. In a strict formal dress code, stick to classic colours with subdued prints, like a blue stripe, for example. You have some more flexibility in a more casual environment, especially considering bold button-down shirts don't need a tie to dress them up. Don't be afraid to experiment: Figure out what works for you, but make sure the shirt complements your look without overshadowing your personality.

2 Choose light-coloured pants and jackets

If you aren't sure if the company you're interviewing at requires a business casual, or business formal type of dress then find the middle ground with a light-coloured or khaki blazer and coordinating pants. A khaki blazer is usually less harsh than a black or grey suit coat. It's a great piece because it straddles the boundary between business casual and business formal. It's adaptable, too, just worn with a tie, it skews business formal, but when it's worn without a tie, it's a solid option for when you aren't quite sure of the dress code.

3 Maintain grooming standard

Your interview is one of the great chances to make a great impression. You should take the time to make sure, your hair should be washed properly, with no messy hair and not too much gel. Your nails are cleaned and somewhat manicured. This may go against everything you believe, but your hands and nails are a prime indicator of your hygiene. You should also consider that if your role requires attention to detail, clean nails are a key sign that you possess this skill. Your clothes should be cleaned and ironed. Ideally, if you want to get your clothes dry-cleaned, but if that is not in your budget, ensure they are wrinkle-free with a good iron and some starch spray. Always use a fresh, clean scent that isn't too overpowering. Your facial hair should be tidy. If you like to shave, then shave. If you have facial hair, make sure it looks presentable. If you have some growth, but it looks more like you haven't bothered to shave for a few days, then consider shaving for the interview.

4 Accessorize tastefully

When it comes to accessories in job interviews, less is more. A belt is mandatory and should be black or brown leather with a discreet buckle. A watch should be worn as it gives the impression that you are time-conscious and likely to turn up to work on time. It also stops you from checking your phone too often. It is not unusual for men to have piercings these days, but keep them discreet. There is nothing wrong with having piercings, and you should not be discriminated against because of them. But if they are too shiny or in-your-face, they can be distracting for the interviewer. Ideally, your watch strap should be metal or leather (without tatty straps), but smartwatches are now the norm. Just remember to mute your notifications before going into the interview.

5 Select appropriate footwear

While going to give some interviews,open-toed shoes or sneakers are an absolute no-no. If you are wearing a full suit, you will need dress shoes to match. Loafers are acceptable if you are opting for more business-casual attire. Whether you choose loafers or dress shoes, your footwear should always fit correctly. You do not want to be wincing every time you take a step or be falling out of your shoes. Be clear of any scuff marks and also be clean and freshly polished.
